I feel like a broken record sometimes but I really love books and one of my favorite things is having the opportunity to read and review books by authors with new work coming out. Recently, I was given a copy of Kimberly Rae’s latest, The Shadow. In short – I devoured it. I couldn’t put it down and flew through it faster than I have any book recently. Keep reading to find out more, including how you can win your own copy of this book plus a surprise gift!
In Kimberly’s own words, “People care and want to make a difference. I love equipping them with the tools and information they need to change the world.” This book does just that – I love that she uses her writing to bring awareness to the atrocities of human trafficking that are happening in our world and also to introduce us to a real-life organization that is working hard to bring about change.
I think everyone would agree than even 1 person being trafficked into prostitution or slave labor is too much and yet every year over 4 million women and children are trafficked for those exact purposes. Rahab’s Rope is an organization in Gainesville, Georgia that is working hard both in the United States and India to reduce those numbers. They are a place that “provides food, shelter, and protection; a place of education and training; and a place where the whole person is ministered to spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and financially. It is a place of hope, a place of transformed lives.”
What is the connection to the book? Well, Kimberly does an amazing job using Rahab’s Rope as the backdrop for her latest romantic suspense, The Shadow. In it, her protagonist, Meagan Winston, loves working at Rahab’s Rope selling jewelry and creative items made by rescued trafficked women in India. After her journeys to Mumbai, Meagan becomes the only connection the FBI can find to the drugs that have also made the trip. A former Marine, Cole Fleming, demands answers and takes her in for questioning only to discover a possible stalker is behind Meagan. You can’t help but wonder if Meagan can trust her own heart and question if Cole is the man secretly following her…
That description had me hooked immediately but I’ll be honest, I was a bit skeptical since I don’t usually go for suspense novels. I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat and mystery books usually leave me sleeping with the light on, checking under the bed for monsters 🙂 I’m so glad I started reading though because as soon as I did, I realized what a gem this one. Kimberly has written a great story that mixes the perfect blend of suspense and romance to keep me wanting to read more without looking over my shoulder. As for the romance, she has woven a beautifully romantic story that highlights the power and beauty of trusting God and following where he brings you.
I’m not one for giving away too much before you read it yourselves but I will highly recommend this one to anyone looking for their next inspiration. Fun fact – the hook she leaves at the end for book 2 in the series has me begging for her to write faster so I can start reading! Isn’t that the best sign of a good book?
I love finding new authors whose work I enjoy – it’s even better when the authors aren’t new, just new to me. Kimberly Rae has already been published over 200 times in 5 different languages, which is fantastic since I’ll need something to read while I wait for her next title in this series.
